If I could give you one thought, it would be to lift someone up. Lift a stranger up--lift her up. I would ask you, mother and father, brother and sister, lovers, mother and daughter, father and son, lift someone. The very idea of lifting someone up will lift you, as well.

GREETINGS FROM THE FOUNDER

Dear readers of the INTERNATIONAL MIDWEST Magazine! I would like to thank you in advance for your time and interest in our online publication. The idea of this magazine is to highlight the life of the international community in the Midwest. I find that it is important to CONNECT people of different ethnic groups; INSPIRE those who are not yet confident; and PROMOTE the businesses and cultures of our diverse community. Originally from Russia, I moved to beautiful Kansas City in 1999. I grew from a person with limited English skills, into a poet and writer of the English language, and a contributing member of my community. (Don't get me wrong, I sometimes still use the help of a professional editor.) For many years, I was embarrassed about my strong Russian accent and I was afraid to speak out. But that is not the case anymore. As soon as I accepted myself and my ethnic background, things changed dramatically for me: I found that others listened to me and valued my opinion. I hope this magazine will help people of different cultures find courage if it is lost, embrace talent if it is hidden, motivate those who live with a minority mindset, and understand each other better. We often don't realize how global and multicultural our Midwest area is. We often don't think about how strongly we are connected. We often forget that our world is beautiful, because we are different. Let's be connected, let's inspire each other and promote our unique cultures!

Sincerely,
Svetlana S. Yeager
Founder of the INTERNATIONAL MIDWEST Magazine
